Notice works differently in fixed-term and indefinite employment contracts. A fixed-term contract normally ends when its agreed term expires, subject to renewal wording. Early termination requires separate review. An indefinite contract has no fixed end date, so written notice and a legitimate reason are central when one party terminates it.
Do not confuse
- Non-renewal with early termination.
- Notice pay with compensation for unlawful termination.
- A contractual notice clause with every statutory consequence.
Review the contract type, wage payment cycle, renewal clause, reason, delivery evidence and final employment date before sending notice.
